1 Day (6 hour) Workshop: Introduction to Costume Breakdown: Processes and Paints with Anthea Mallinson
Anthea will be giving this one day workshop in the well equipped Textile Arts workroom on the CapU campus in this first ever session of May-June workshops.
Anthea has worked as a dyer, breakdown and textile artist on IATSE 891 productions since 1997. She also taught in the Textile Arts and Costuming departments at Capilano University for 35 years and loves sharing her knowledge.
This six hour class will consist of 2 hours of lecture /discussion and 4 hours of guided practice with different tools and a variety of breakdown paints favoured by costume teams in Vancouver. We will review fibre types and fabric structure, basic colour theory, texturing, and paint types and techniques.
No experience required. This workshop is designed for anyone who is interested in costume ageing and breakdown either for their own projects or as costumers in film and theatre. (This workshop is not designed for the experienced breakdown artist.)
Supplies and materials (paints; tools; gloves; dust masks; fabric etc.) will be provided.
Option: bring a garment to work on.
Bring a lunch! Tea and coffee will be provided.
